What is shiatsu about?

Shiatsu aims to improve a patient’s flow of Qi (chi), which is a person's natural energy system that runs along internal pathways called meridians. The free movement of energy blockages and achievement of balance are the goals of Shiatsu treatment. The treatment aims to release tensions from the body and mind, and helps energy flow freely.Shiatsu is a japanese treatment based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy (Qi) through the body. Shiatsu therapists use finger and palm pressure to energetic pathways, called meridians to improve the flow of Qi. Shiatsu means finger pressure.A scientific explanation is that shiatsu calms an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which improves circulation, relieves stiff muscles, and alleviates stress.

What to expect during the session?

Before the massage we have a short consultation to get some information about the actual body-mind state and to see the changes from session to session. All session take around  1-1,5 hour.  Shiatsu is made on a thick mat. Most people benefit immediately from deep relaxation and feeling refreshed after each session. Please find attached my recommendiations

During shiatsu massage I won't use any oil/lotion, you are  wearing your own comfortable clothes (no jeans), no music in order to help your body to relax.

At the end of the session there is a short period of rest to allow integration and assimilation. Follow up sessions will involve a short check in before receiving shiatsu body work. Multiple sessions are encouraged to strengthen the energy in the body.

What should I wear?

Please come wearing or bring soft, loose-fitting clothing.  Full-length pants such as sweatpants, yoga pants, or even pajama pants are ideal.  Jeans and similar pants do not work well for shiatsu because they restrict range of motion and have zippers, buttons and snaps that can be uncomfortable while lying on your stomach.  For a shirt, t-shirts, short or long sleeve work well.  If you tend to get cold easily, wear an extra layer, as the body temperature can drop while lying down.
